Dr. James Benneyan


Dr. James Benneyan is a nationally recognized leader, expert, and innovator in the field of healthcare systems engineering. He is executive director and senior scientist of the Healthcare Systems Engineering Institute at Northeastern University, including four federally-funded centers supported by the National Science Foundation, CMS, AHRQ, and Veterans Health Administration and seven undergraduate through doctoral internship, mentorship, and degree programs. Prior to joining Northeastern, he was senior systems engineer at Harvard Community Health Plan and an industrial engineer at IBM. Jim is a member of the statistics and healthcare divisions of ASQ, faculty and senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, advisor to CMS’s Innovation center, and past President of the Society for Health Systems. He serves on numerous editorial and national advisory boards, has received 12 research, teaching, and service awards, and has been principal investigator or co-director in seven research centers totaling over $162 million in funding.
