Engaging and Empowering the Workforce

Abstract The Henry Ford Hospital Department of Pathology changed its culture by aligning Henry Ford’s approach of efficient mass-production to include Toyota Production System work rules and principles. Known as the Henry Ford Production System (HFPS), its goal is to become best in class for defect reduction and elimination of waste. HFPS’ purpose is to instill cultural changes that enable empowered, self-directed employees to drive quality improvements continually and rapidly, incrementally moving toward an ideal condition.
