Abstract With an overwhelming amount of data involved in certain industries, it’s often necessary to take a sample while maintaining as much accuracy as possible. In such situations, it may be necessary to come up with an average and report that to the decision makers. In this Measure for Measure column, Dilip Shah describes the dangers of reporting the average by itself and provides a better approach to dealing with large amounts of data.
