Abstract The merging of Six Sigma and lean methods is largely responsible for a new model for Black Belt (BB) training fueled by the emergence of powerful new tools and the need to incorporate them in the practitioner’s tool kit. Today’s BBs are partners in strategically-grounded initiatives structured to meet organizational goals. BB training programs must offer business knowledge, leadership skills, team development capabilities, and enhanced technical expertise. The new role of Lean Six Sigma BBs requires training that helps them understand the dynamics of organizational culture, people, and infrastructure. Selecting a BB training provider can be more effective by applying the principles of Lean Six Sigma to the task.
