Abstract When called upon to initiate a new quality management program, a background in quality management helps, but is not a necessity. ISO 9001 contains a list of activities that must be implemented by management to assure a business operates systematically and meets customer expectations. Effective communication and collaboration with management on long-term projects will enable a quality Champion to develop a formal continuous improvement program. Eleven steps discussed help the Champion guide the organization through implementation of ISO 9001 and avoid unexpected setbacks.
